Graduate Account

What you need to know about your Student Account changing to a Graduate Account

Your account after graduation

If you've just graduated, you don't need to do anything. Your Student Account will automatically change to a Graduate Account, and you can continue to use your card, online banking and mobile app as usual.

Prior to the account switch you should receive an email or letter detailing:

- the changes to your account
- the date of the switch

For a summary of these, as well as how to get the most out of your account, see our check list below:

Changes to your account

Years 1 and 2 after you've graduated

Nothing changes immediately. In the first year after you graduate you will get:

Up to £2,000 interest-free arranged overdraft

Depending on when you opened your Student Account, you will have received a Tastecard or National Express Young Persons Coachcard:

- Tastecard annual membership will automatically renew for another 2 years

- Coachcard will remain valid for a maximum of 4 years, starting from the date you opened your Student Account

In the second year of your Graduate Account, you will benefit from:

Up to £1,000 interest-free arranged overdraft

Depending on when you opened your Student Account, you will have received a Tastecard or National Express Young Persons Coachcard:

    - Tastecard annual membership will automatically renew for another year

    - Coachcard will remain valid for a maximum of 4 years, starting from the date you opened your Student Account

Any arranged overdraft limits over the interest-free threshold will incur fees and charges if used (9.9% EAR). If you do not have an arranged overdraft or go over it, you will be charged £8 per day for unarranged overdrafts of more than £10.

Use our overdraft calculator to see how an Arranged Overdraft can help save you money.

Year 3 and onwards after you've graduated

Two years after you graduate you will automatically move onto a Select Account and your arranged overdraft will no longer be interest-free:

- if you use your arranged overdraft, there is a monthly arranged overdraft usage fee of £6, and you will be charged arranged overdraft interest (19.89% EAR variable)

- if you do not have an arranged overdraft or go over it, you will be charged £8 per day for unarranged overdrafts of more than £10

Alternatively, you can choose to get a packaged account, which comes with additional benefits. Packaged accounts start from £12 a month for a Reward Silver Account.

Fees and charges explained

Overdraft fees and charges are calculated based on a number of elements, such as your account type, your arranged overdraft limit (including if you have an interest-free arranged overdraft), the amount you are overdrawn and for how long.

Examples of how fees and charges are applied:

Scenario 1:
If you have a Graduate Account with a £2,000 interest-free arranged overdraft, and are overdrawn £2,000, you will pay no fees and charges
Scenario 2:
If you have a Graduate Account with a £1,000 interest-free arranged overdraft, no other arranged overdraft, and are overdrawn £1,100 for 3 days, you will be charged £24 (£8 per day for unarranged borrowing)
Scenario 3:
If you have a Select Account with a £2,000 arranged overdraft, and are overdrawn £100, you will be charged a £6 arranged overdraft usage fee and interest on overdrawn balance (19.89% AER variable)
Make the most of your Graduate Account with:

If your Student Account came with a Tastecard, it will automatically renew annually for another 2 years.

If your Student Account came with a Coachcard, this will remain valid for a maximum of 4 years, starting from the date you opened your Student Account.
