Apple Pay is a secure way to pay as every transaction on your iPhone or iPad requires you to authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. Your Apple Watch is protected by the passcode that only you know, and your passcode is required every time you put on your Apple Watch.

When you make a purchase, Apple Pay uses a device-specific number and unique transaction code. So your card number is never stored on your device or on Apple servers, and when you pay, your card numbers are never shared by Apple with merchants.

1. Paying in Stores - When you pay in stores, your card number and identity aren't shared with the retailer, and your actual card numbers aren't stored on your device or on Apple servers.
   
   
2. Paying in an app or online - When you are paying in an app, the retailer will only receive information they need to fulfil your order. Any information retained by Apple Pay is anonymous, and the nature of your purchase cannot be identified. We take security very seriously and, provided you take appropriate care, we'll offer you the same protection against fraud when you use Apple Pay, as we do for your Royal Bank of Scotland debit and credit cards.

What if my Apple device is stolen?

With Apple Pay, you authorize each purchase with Face ID (opens in a new window), Touch ID, or your passcode. These features help prevent other people from using Apple Pay on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac.

You can go to your Apple ID account page (opens in a new window) or use the Find My app (opens in a new window) (must be enabled before hand) on an iPhone or iPad to suspend or permanently remove the ability to pay from that device with Apple Pay. Your cards will be suspended or removed from Apple Pay even if your device is offline and not connected to a cellular or Wi-Fi network. Using your Royal Bank of Scotland card and Apple Pay to travel across the Transport for London network is now even faster and easier. You no longer need to use Face ID or Touch ID on iPhone and Apple Watch. Just tap it on the card reader and go.

How to set your Royal Bank of Scotland card as default for TfL journeys

On iPhone:

Open Settings and go to Wallet & Apple Pay

Tap Express Travel Card and choose your Royal Bank of Scotland card

Confirm the card with Touch ID or Face ID

On Apple Watch:

Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, then go to Wallet & Apple Pay

Tap Express Travel Card and choose your Royal Bank of Scotland card

Confirm the card on your Apple Watch with your passcode

How to use it

Once your Royal Bank of Scotland card is set up as your Express Travel Card, just hold your iPhone or Apple Watch over the yellow card readers on TfL services. You won’t need to open Apple Wallet, wake your device or use Touch ID or Face ID.
